What are you carrying? Put it down!
Let me ask you a piercing question: What are you carrying that you were never designed to bear?
We live in a world that praises the heavy lifter. We are taught to be self-made, self-sufficient, and self-reliant. And so, we walk around, dressed in our finest apparel, wearing a smile that doesn't quite reach our eyes, proclaiming, "I'm blessed and highly favored," while simultaneously staggering under the silent weight of our own anxieties! We have perfected the art of wearing the mask of self-sufficiency!
I stop by to tell you that Christianity is not about increasing your capacity to carry a heavier load; it is about learning the glorious, liberating truth of divine delegation! The Master, the Christ who broke the bread and calmed the sea, He knew the exhaustion that comes from fruitless human striving. That is why He issued the most radical invitation in all of history: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest!"
The moment you attempt to solve a spiritual problem with merely human effort, you are sewing back together the veil that the Lord so lovingly tore in two for you! There is no need for pretense. There is no need for that performance! God does not need your polished résumé; He needs your broken submission! He knows the truth that is hidden beneath the façade. He knows the fear that grips your spirit. He is calling you to take off the mask, to lay down the tools of your own frantic labor, and to finally receive the yoke that is easy and the burden that is light. True rest, beloved, is found only in the power of true surrender.
Pray with me : Father God, I confess that I have carried burdens that belong to You. I lay down the mask of self-sufficiency. I surrender my plans, my fears, and my need to control. Lord, exchange my anxiety for Your perfect rest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
